Why Moving Insurance is Essential
Moving insurance safeguards your possessions from unforeseen events during transportation. Despite our meticulous care and experienced team, accidents can happen. Ensure your valuables are protected with our comprehensive insurance options.

We take great care to help protect your belongings by making sure our team is trained and aware during the moving process in handling your household furnishings and protecting your home.
Sometimes, despite best efforts, damages can occur, so we want to make sure our clients are educated about coverage options when hiring a moving company so you can make the best decision for your needs.

Selecting the Right Coverage
Interstate movers are required under federal law to offer a minimum level of damage protection, but that minimum level is based on the weight of the item, not its value. This minimum coverage is calculated at 60 cents per pound. This provides minimal coverage per lost or damaged item, most likely less than you might expect.
For example, if a 200-pound Leather Sofa you bought for $2,000 is damaged or lost in the move, that protection would only pay you $120 for that item.
Full coverage can be purchased from your mover or from a third party. Additionally, you can check to see if your homeowner's or renter's insurance would cover any loss or damage during moves.
Types of Coverage
Standard Coverage
-
Description: This is the standard coverage that all moving companies provide. It offers minimal protection.
-
Coverage Amount: $0.60 per pound per item.
-
Cost: Included in the moving contract.
Full Value Protection
-
Description: This plan provides more comprehensive protection. If any of your items are lost or damaged during the move, this coverage will repair or replace them, or you will receive a cash settlement offer for the current market value of the item.
-
Coverage Amount: Based on the declared value of your belongings.
-
Cost: Varies depending on the declared value of your items.
Third-Party Insurance
-
Description: For those seeking additional protection, third-party insurance can offer more extensive coverage beyond the basic and full value options.
-
Coverage Amount: Varies based on the policy purchased.
-
Cost: Please consult with your insurance provider for rates.

Mullins Moving Insurance Options
Mullins Moving provides the standard coverage that is required for all moving companies that covers individual items at $0.60 per pound.
We work with two highly preferred 3rd party insurance carriers that can provide you with full coverage insurance for a single piece or your entire shipment.
BAKER INTERNATIONAL
We recommend the policies offered by Baker International for full coverage insurance on an entire shipment.
To provide you with pricing options, they will require the moving carrier’s information, the value of your goods, and the estimated weight of the shipment.
We’d be happy to assist you in determining the weight of the shipment if you’re looking to explore this option.
-
Baker International does not offer single piece coverage.

MOVINGINSURANCE.COM / RELOCATIONINSURANCE.COM
For full coverage insurance on single pieces, we recommend the policies offered by MovingInsurance.com also known as RelocationInsurance.com.
They will require the moving carrier’s information, a description of the piece and the value of your item to provide you with pricing options. Because of their policy restrictions, we do not recommend this carrier if you are looking to insure the entire shipment.

HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE
You can check with your homeowners/renters insurance carrier and see if they offer coverage above the $0.60 per pound offered at our standard rates.
This is typically done in the form of a rider added to the policy. If offered, the usual cost is between $50.00 and $100.00. They will typically request our licensing information to verify that a reputable company is handling the move.
